HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION
Human trafficking is incredibly widespread and our hotels have an important role to play in keeping our community and our hotels safe from this harm. HANTX is now partnering with Businesses Ending Slavery and Trafficking (BEST) to provide FREE human trafficking prevention training for HANTX members and their staff.
This recent article (3/2021) in Hotel Management describes how more hotels are moving towards implementing touch-free technologies to help keep their guests safe, and what that means for changing how we prevent human trafficking in hotels, especially during COVID.
We often think of human trafficking happening somewhere else but it occurs within our own communities. To better equip our hospitality employees to recognize the signs of trafficking, the Hotel Association of North Texas is pleased to be partnering with BEST to offer their Inhospitable to Human Trafficking Training free to our members. Armed with this knowledge, our employees will be better able to make a difference in their workplace and community and to the lives of those impacted by trafficking.

Recently, I attended a live course of BEST's Inhospitable to Human Trafficking training. The instructor and information are on target for what we need to do in stopping human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of individuals. Many corporations and businesses, large and small are involved in this cause in various formats. This training is excellent for any team discussing how to become involved and relook at the identifying factors of human trafficking, and how to report it. This is a crime and it is happening not just in random places or far away. It is here, occurring in the DFW area, and happening to so many individuals. I highly recommend that all hotel employees take part in this valuable training and learn what you can do to end this crime.

ABOUT BEST’S INHOSPITABLE TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING TRAINING
BEST offers the most comprehensive human trafficking training available in the country for hospitality employees. BEST’s training is a proven tool that helps victims of human trafficking escape exploitation and helps trained hotels become less hospitable for traffickers. Survey research has shown that before receiving training, only 8% of trainees recognized a trafficking incident within the prior year. After taking BEST’s training, that number jumped to 44% of trainees identifying victims.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES
1. Provide an overview of sex trafficking and labor trafficking and their impact on the hotel industry
2. Discuss common indicators of human trafficking and case examples
3. Give action steps for how to respond to and prevent human trafficking
4. Discuss key takeaways and provide additional resources, including modules to address real scenarios or receive more in-depth training
TRAINING MODEL OPTIONS
1. Individual online training for staff (in English and Spanish)
2. Individual online training for owners and managers (staff training course plus additional modules and resources for owners and managers)
